So Not Cool

So, after a week of running around like a chicken with its head cut off, I finally got a cold. Although it sounds like I am asking for it, I am not. I hate being sick, it makes me feel needy. And since I don't have anybody around to act out, I am going to manifest my neediness online.<br /><br />I wish I could say I felt a cold coming. In retrospect, I might. It was a strange feeling as I came home from the library on Saturday. It was as if all the energy drained out of my body. As I collapsed into my bed, I also felt a little bit depressed. I blamed it on something else, a phone call that didn't go well.<br /><br />Sunday morning came. I woke up and felt the whole room swirling around me. "Oh boy," I thought, "I'm having a cold." Then I ran to the bathroom to puke. Nothing but a little bit of liquid came out. My stomach was empty. I am really having this cold. And you know what the funny thing is? I actually felt cold. It was like little shivers running up and down my body.<br /><br />I had enough energy left to boil me some water, grate some ginger, and made a ginger tea. I found some cold medicine, took two pills as instructed with the hot ginger tea, and passed out. When I woke up again, the woozy feeling was not there anymore but it felt like I have rocks on my brain.<br /><br />So no, this is not cool. Not cool at all. I conjured enough energy to go grocery shopping because there's nothing worse than being starved when having a cold. Besides, my ginger supply was running low.<br /><br />Now, I'm sweating bucket as I'm typing this. My head still hurts. I hate having a cold. But again, I don't get sick that often. But still, I hate it.<br /><br />Here's a cold remedy for those who might need it. As my mom always says, have some ginger and lemon available. You may never know when you'll need it. Jump and learn more.<br /><br /><a name='more'></a><br /><b>Hot Ginger Lemonade: a Cold Remedy</b><br /><br />What you need: some ginger root, preferably the size of your thumb; half a lemon or lime (use more if you want a sour drink); hot water; some honey (or sugar); a pinch of salt.<br /><br /><i>How to make it:</i><br /><br /><ul><li>Boil some water (1-1.5 cups)</li><li>Grate, smash, or thinly chop your ginger root to a pulp. Since I have a grater, I prefer the first method. It's a lot easier. Make sure you get about a tablespoon of grated ginger (more if you want a really hot drink.)</li><li>Squeeze the lemon into a cup, add your grated ginger, then pour water all over them. Add honey or sugar to sweeten it, then add a pinch of salt.</li></ul><br />Usually, I would wait a couple of minutes to get the ginger essence steep out. Also, I don't want to drink a scalding hot lemonade. Then, I would be very brave and drink the whole thing.<br /><br />Now, here's a word of warning: it burns and I'm not kidding. If you're not a spicy eater, you will get the greatest burn of your life. However, my mom chugged this down my throat since I was five so I have no problem drinking it. I prefer to take my cold medicine with water afterwards and go to sleep. Whatever ailment you have, this hot ginger lemonade will knock it out of you after you wake up.<br /><br />Repeat as many times as needed. You will feel better in no time.<br /><br />If you have stomachache, grated ginger with hot water and a pinch of salt works wonder, too. Again, just be really brave and chug it down your throat. You will feel better in no time.<br /><br />So let me go and take another nap before my med wears off. Belly is fine but confused. He wants to play with me but I can't. I don't want him to have a kitty cold. He's kind of sad when I told him I could not play with him. But still, he ate his cat food though. Chanel no. 5: I Get It Now

To be honest, I don't remember much about my grandfather since he passed away when I was so young. However, I recalled he was quite stylist and he smelled pretty good. My grandfather was tall, dark, handsome, and skinny. And he smoked, a lot. I did not know what kind of perfume he wore but it smelled interesting. Probably the tobacco smoke added some character to it.<br /><br />Later on, as I grew up, my mom told me the secret: Grandpa wore Chanel no. 5! Now, that came as a shocker to me. As we all know, Chanel no. 5 is the famous perfume for women. And how come he smelled so fabulous with it? I remember it was quite dark and smoky on him. An interesting mix, yet somehow it felt comfortable, too. I guess my grandfather did not overdo his perfume and the tobacco smoke just deepened the scent. I kept that information deep in my mind and at the time, I did not know what to do with it.<br /><br />Time passed, I became a beauty blogger. Yet, I was not convinced of the power of Chanel. Of course, Chanel makeup is more than fabulous. I want them but for now, I know for sure I can't afford them. Once in a while, I would cruise the Chanel counter and randomly sprayed some perfume like a fan girl. After doing it for a while, one day I realized I smelled pretty fabulous with Chanel Coco Mademoiselle. Like seriously, that day I smelled bitch-ass fabulous. I got a ton of comments on the way home. People wanted to know what I wore. Right then and there, I wanted to bust out my wallet and buy the smallest size possible of the Coco Mademoiselle.<br /><br /><a name='more'></a><br /><br />But the inner money conscious Asian inside of me begged to differ. Instead, I asked for a carded sample. The sales assistant was kind enough to search up and down the counter for me. I had high hope. But then, she looked at me and said, "Ma'am, we don't have any samples for Coco Mademoiselle. But we do have Chanel no. 5. Do you want one?"<br /><br />Of course, I was not insane. Disappointed, yes, but not insane. So I nodded. I came home, took a shower, and sprayed some no. 5 on my arms. Somehow, I managed to forget all about it until a couple of hours later when I caught a whiff of myself. <i>What is that?</i> I continued sniffing until I found the spot that I previously sprayed Chanel no. 5 on. Bingo! This is why I smelled good!<br /><br />Truth be told, I probably sprayed Chanel no. 5 ten times before that. However, the scent I smelled was not the same as the one I remembered. You see, scents and memory go hand in hand. Sometimes, a scent can invoke powerful memories of childhood. That's why I still can't wear lavender. It reminds me so much of my grandmother. But the Chanel no. 5 in my past was a lot different. It was darker, muskier, and sexier. It was Grandpa. And the current Chanel no. 5 is not. It smells too young to me. Even my mom said the same thing.<br /><br />Then, after some digging, I found out a lot of ingredients in Chanel no. 5 became synthetic since some of them are hard to find and/or take a lot of time to grow. That change probably made the current Chanel no. 5 less interesting. Also, if I remember correctly, my grandfather did not use his Chanel right away. He let it age for a while before using it. With that process, the perfume became more condensed and probably brought out more interesting characteristics.<br /><br />But that day when I sniffed my arms like mad, I realized one thing: like people, perfumes also have their own evolution. Hence, I don't expect Chanel no. 5 to smell the same 50 years from now, either. Behind the mist and legend, Chanel no. 5 is a pretty straightforward scent: it is a skin scent. Back in the day when it came out, this perfume probably was a sensation due to its overtly usage of aldehydes. But now, it is pretty tame. With all the perfumes coming out every year, we get a pretty wide spread of scents. Three years ago, if you told me that woody-floral would become trendy, I would have laughed at you. But now, with the advancement in chromatography, anything and everything is possible.<br /><br />With that said, I found a new love thanked to my grandfather. To me, Chanel no. 5 is a skin scent that is full of sensuality. It cannot be beat. But it is not for everybody. You need to be mature enough to understand and wear it. You need to own your no. 5. Hello home people!<br /><br />Belly's back! Last week I decided to share with you a picture of moi reminiscing my cat food modeling day. Neutral Eyes FOTD

Hello there,<br /><br />Recently, I was a bit trigger-happy as E.L.F made its way to Target for the back to school season. There are four new palettes available, 3 eye and 1 lip palettes. And guess what? They sell like hot cakes! The inner collector in me decided to swoop in and collected all 3 of the eye palettes for $15 plus tax. Can you believe it? That's 50 cents more expensive than a MAC eyeshadow and I got 36 eye shadows instead. For those who are looking for a review, I will put them up next week. Sinful Colors Nail Polish in Vacation Time: Say Ahhh!

Well, if you did not, you probably missed out one huge opportunity to score some awesome nail polishes from Sinful Colors. Of course, they had to put a limit into it as you could only get 3 at a time.<br /><br />This time around, I picked 3 nail polishes: 2 for me and 1 for a friend. If I don't manage to make a mess all over my cuticles, I would fill my nails with paint streaks. Those are the two main reasons I love glittery nail polishes with big brushes. You can hardly mess it up at all. But as I said earlier, glittery nail polishes are a pain in the tush when you remove them.<br /><br />But the older I get, the more I long for good quality cream nail polishes. I struck gold with <a href="http://mymakeupblog.blogspot.com/2010/06/good-find-rimmel-london-lasting-finish.html">Rimmel London Steel Grey</a> nail polish earlier this summer and I looked forward to a repeat performance from Vacation Time. Needless to say, this nail polish doesn't disappoint. The color is really pigmented, I only need a coat to cover my nails, which means the chance to get streaks is low. It is really shiny and the juice does not spread out that much to invade my cuticles. However, it is a dress down color to me. It does not make your nails look too muted, yet does not look too bright either. It is just right, and for some reasons, it makes me feel very relaxed.<br /><br />I have worn it for more than a week and there is no tip wear. Also, there's no chips either. I consider this a good paint job.</td></tr></tbody></table>The only complaint I have is it dries very quickly. Therefore, you need to apply it fast and dip the brush back into the bottle. Back to School with E.L.F: the Eyelid Primer

Hellur,<br /><br />Recently, I found out the famously cheap <a href="http://eyeslipsface.com/">E.L.F</a> has graced the shelves of Target once again. "Halleluyer," I said, "Let them have awesomely cheap makeup!" Since when I became a fan of ELF, I don't quite remember. All I know is the stuff I ordered online as well as bought at Target are quite reliable. And did I say cheap?<br /><br />The ELF stuff at Target just flies off the shelf like crazy. I wanted to get another eyeshadow brush but alas, none found. As I was about to walk out of the store with tail between my feet (figuratively), I saw a few of the Eyelid Primers hanging on the wall. Since I didn't get the Mineral Eyeshadow Primer in my last order, I decided to give this one a chance. Not only so, this primer can be spread quite thinly. As you may know, MAC paint pots are my stand-in primers and they spread out quite well. This even tops them. I don't need a lot of product to cover my entire eyelid and once spread out, it feels like a thin film. The feeling is not as creamy as paint pots but it is not uncomfortable either. Yup, the stuff is not 100% colorless. However, if you have uneven skin tone on your eyelids, this will help to balance things out.<br /><br />And now, the juicy part: <b>Does it work?</b><br /><br />My answer: to a certain extend.<br /><br />For a dollar, I do not expect much. If it can hold my eye shadows for about 6 hours, it does the job. And yes, it does, even in the heat and humidity of the Sunshine State. I tested it for 3 times, once indoor, once outdoor, and once when I was in and out. Each time, the duration was 4-6 hours. With that said, there's a trick to make this work: <i>you have to wait for the primer to dry totally</i>. It does not take that long, only a minute or two, but it is the only way for this eyelid primer to work.<br /><br />Once dried, you can apply your eye shadows and it will keep everything intact for about 6 hours. Longer than that, you're on your own. The thing is, even paint pots can prolong the colors for a certain amount of time before everything started to melt. Six hours is not that long, if you go to work or school all day. However, if the temperature is lower and you stay mostly indoor with the A.C on, the time limit can be stretched for an hour or two longer.<br /><br />The quality of eye shadows also determines how long they stay on your eyelids when using this primer. I tried MAC, ELF, and Formula D eye shadows. While MAC and Formula D colors stay relatively long (6 hours and beyond), ELF does not stay that long. I pressed my luck and after 4 hours, ELF eye shadows started to fade.<br /><br />Another point of attention is the vibrancy of the eye shadows when using this product as a primer: it does not bolster your colors at all. Au contraire, the colors seem to be dimmer. The effect is similar to that of Urban Decay Sin Primer Potion. If I were to purchase a primer from ELF, I may go for the <a href="http://www.eyeslipsface.com/minerals/eyes/concealers_&_primers/eyeshadow_primer">Mineral Eyeshadow Primer</a>, which is $3. However, that one contains bismuth oxychloride, which irritates my skin. For a dollar, this primer is not so bad. Belly at Large: Old Habit Dies Hard

Howdy,<br /><br />As you may know, I am in semi-retirement when it comes to modeling. Back in the day, I was the Cindy Crawford of cat food commercial. Being a model requires a lot of things and <a href="http://mymakeupblog.blogspot.com/2010/06/belly-at-large-skinny-cat.html">catching snakes</a> is not one of them. Needless to say, I don't miss those days when I had to be a size double-zero kitty model. My body doesn't work that way, y'all. I'm just handsome that way.<br /><br />Which reminds me of another thing: la mamarazzi  really needs a new camera, preferably one of those expensive D-SLR thingies with the long lenses. Home girl can take pictures, that much I can tell. Who knows, she may end up being Annie Leibovitz of the Cat Fancy world some day. Beside pissing me off with that soy chicken nugget and recently, that deworm medicine, she's a good girl. Santa, please put her in the nice list for a camera, will you? Hellur,<br /><br />Recently, I've come to a realization that my life is getting weirder and weirder since I became a beauty blogger. I cannot just step out of the house like a normal person with no makeup. It feels naked. I have to put something on, preferably something that makes me look like a drag queen, and parade around town. My concept of "neutral makeup" is the smokey eyes with neutral-looking colors!<br /><br />This is my effort to look toned down and less drag queen-ish for a day. Needless to say, I failed.
