Time to Organize my Makeup Stash

After I started using mineral makeup, my makeup stash has grown significantly. Compared to traditional makeup, MMU is very affordable and you have the option to buy samples to try as well. Usually, these samples come in cute little 5 gram jars that are convenient to use. However, they takes up a lot of space inside my tiny train case. However, my local Target and Walmart do not sell these boxes and I need something similar to store my MMU. The container has to be visible enough for me to see what I have inside, big enough to store all my MMU, and comfortable enough for me to take the makeup out as well. And guess what? The beading section in my local JoAnn's store has the perfect solution for $1.99 USD! Trying to take some pigments out of a tiny baggy is a pain and I do not want to contaminate those tiny samples when I foil them. Putting them in these little jars is much more convenient and the system costs the same as buying 3-gram jars online if you take shipping cost into consideration. That's all for today, folks! News of the (Yester)Day: Why High Heels are Your Enemies

As I indicated <a href="http://mymakeupblog.blogspot.com/2008/09/my-trip-to-target-jemma-kidd-np-set-and.html">before</a>, I'm one dedicated beauty blogger: I run to stores to report the newest and the hottest (ok, most of the time), I show the world the very best products that I use, and I also inform you about <a href="http://mymakeupblog.blogspot.com/2008/08/musings-on-mac-limited-editions.html">beauty related news</a>. What else could you ask more from such a <s>crazy</s> dedicated blogger like me? Anyways, yesterday <a href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/">The Daily Mail</a> from London had an article about <a href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1053601/High-heel-horrors-The-hidden-cost-body-crucial-extra-inches.html">the effects of wearing high heels on your body</a>. In my opinion, it's a <s>heck of an article</s> very well written article with a picture of Gwyneth Paltrow, who's popular in the U.K as well as in the U.S, some couple of nicely illustrated pictures, and cohesive points of how damaging high heels are to the human body. I wish research all articles were written with such manners instead of leaving the readers confused with the lack of diagrams, charts, and tables. Please read it, good reading materials! Now I'm not a heel wearer, more of a sneaker person thanks to my friendly working environment where people are covered in lab coats. I'm not complaining because my New Balance sneakers are really comfy. However, as heels are banned in the lab, I own about 3 pairs of them. Then when it comes to heel-wearing occasions, I'm stuck with nice clothes and ancient looking heels. I had a fair share of heel wearing back in high school but my heels were about 2 inches high. However, at the end of the day my feet always felt exhausted, so exhausted that sometimes I felt it would feel better if I didn't have legs at all! Plus my knees and back constantly hurt me. Whether my Achilles tendons were shortened or not I have no clue. But thankfully I don't have corns or bunions. Nowadays, the heels I have are mostly kitty heels (1 inch or less) but I do have a pair of Louboutin Bruges lookalike that does not make its way out of the real world yet. I have to say them 4-inch heels are not comfortable. However, my butts look awesomely awesome, like Giselle awesome, and my legs look extremely long. Ah, the illusion of beauty! But wait a sec, didn't <a href="http://www.shoeblog.com/forums/shoes/8037-gisele-versace-spring-2008-ad-campaign-versace-louboutins.html">Versace</a> do the red soles at the last Spring Fashion Week as well? Or the sleuth of other less-known designers? For some weird and twisted reasons, I felt bad for Louboutin: first being knocked off from high-end to low-end brands, and now being pointed as the devil to the women's soles (not souls!) So what to do? For me, I keep on wearing my sneakers during the work days, Aerosoles and flip flops during the weekends, kitty heels for presentations, and that pair of cheap Bruges lookalike inside my apartment. Walking around the house in a pair of 4-inch heels makes me feel really powerful, you know. <s>Plus I'm afraid I may trip and fall while wearing such a high pair of shoes!</s> </div></div> How about you? L'Oreal HIP Cream Shadow Paint in Witty: It Saves You Money!

As much as I love MAC paint pots, I can't carry them with me everywhere. They are bulky and the container is made from glass so they are quite fragile for traveling. MAC paint would be a better travel companion than paint pots but if I lost a $16.50 USD tube of MAC paint, you would hear me <s>bitch</s> complain a lot. So what is there for me to bring during my trips that saves my eye shadows from creasing? The answer is right there whenever I set foot to the drugstore: L'Oreal HIP cream shadow paint! This line from L'Oreal has products that are doppelgangers to MAC and L'Oreal HIP cream shadow paints are very good dupes of MAC paints, except then are about 5-6 dollars cheaper. During my last trip to Target, I struck gold with a tube of L'Oreal HIP cream shadow paint in Witty (813 for those who like to remember the number!) The brush is really tiny and made from natural bristles. The color probably is similar to Indianwood paint pot, which is a metallic antique bronze eye color. Witty is an excellent color for everyday use because (a) it is a neutral color that does not look boring, (b) it has great pigmentation and (c) it is extremely long lasting. I put it on in the morning and at the evening, it looked the same as it did when I applied it! Amazing! How to use L'Oreal HIP cream shadow paint (as well as MAC paint): <ul><li>You can use your finger or a brush: the finger can spread the paint out better due to your body heat but it can be messy. The brush is perfect to apply dark colors because it's more precise.</li><li>If you use a brush to apply, make sure it's a stiff brush like MAC 239 or a synthetic brush. Then squeeze a bit of paint to your brush and be very careful. Paint tend to get out of the tube more than you think so just squeeze gently.</li><li>Apply the paint to your eyelid only if it's a dark color, all over your eyes up to the brow bone if it's a light color.</li><li>After that, you can apply powder eyeshadows and/or pigments on top if you use the paint as a base or primer. Finally, with the same brush and color, I applied Champagne underneath the brow bone to highlight. Mascara: Maybelline the Colossal, eyeliner: Jane be pure mineral eyeliner. Cheeks: Shu Uemura blush in P Brown 76 Lips: Sally Hansen Diamond Lip Treatment in Pink Bouquet In conclusion, I really love Witty and at $10.99 USD a piece, it's quite a bargain compared to MAC paint. Moreover, drugstores frequently have sales and promotions on L'Oreal HIP products that you can take advantage of. NY Fashion Week SS09 Wrap Up I

Who knew Victoria Beckham had a dress collection showing at Fashion Week? Where does the women get the time between her reality TV show, pedicures, designing jeans and sunglasses, whipping up a perfume and being a wife and a mom? But anyway, back to the collection. Despite her having graced Blackwell's Worst Dressed List many times and indeed having a questionable sense of style on occasions, I am still very much want to like her collection. At the back of my mind, I guess my love for the Spice Girl era still lingers, making me want to love everything about them. And Posh has always been my favourite Spice. However, despite my best efforts to want to be wow-ed, I was not blown away. It was a small and simple collection, to put it nicely. The entire collection could be summed up by a few looks. It was basically a collection that contained a few versions of the same dresses. They were all slimming pencil skirts of the same slightly longer length (which I think is great for more sophistication and class). They also have this in white. Then the dress shirt dress, which we've been seeing in the stores a lot lately. I think this silhouette is very clever and very flattering to the female body. It curves at all the right places. I can totally see Victoria in it. This was possibly the most inspiring thing about the whole collection and of course she has this silhouette in many different styles. In black, in white, a casual less emphatic version and a more dressed up version. Although personally I'm not sure it'll look very good on me, since I'm shorter (and definitely not as lithe as the models!), so the skirt will probably cut my legs exactly where it shouldn't! All in all, it was not a very inspiring (besides that shape of course) nor wow-ing collection. To give Victoria her credit though, it was indeed a very simple and classic collection. They are definitely not dated, which was her aim. And I'm sure they are very well made and tailored given the $1500-$3600 price range. Plus, at 15 looks, she did not try to overdo the collection with more unnecessary looks. It is always quality over quantity after all. Though I think 4 looks would've suffice to get the creative message across. But then, that wouldn't be a very good show, would it? Anyways, last week when I was rolling up my hair, inspiration struck me to do some funky makeup using products I've never used before. Now, if you've been following me so far, you know I do not wear red lipsticks. The last time I wore red lipstick was at my 8th birthday party where a cousin of mine was in charge of the makeup department. She thought red was gorgeous on me and deliberately applied really ripe red lipstick on my tiny lips. From what I remembered, the birthday party was fun and I looked a lot older than 8! And I put off with the color red on my lips since then. I foiled the eye shadows to accomplish the twinkling effect. Then I used Hot blush from LORAC Hollywood heat on my cheeks and went with a nude lip look. However, when I looked at my hair I realized I looked kind of majestic and minutes later I found myself with winged up eyeliners and red lipstick on my lips. It was too late to turn back so I decided to snap some pictures to commemorate this event anyways. Now I know I can wear red without looking too ridiculous. However, NYX round lipsticks are really drying so make sure you wear a lip balm underneath. NYX Haul, Part Deux: Lip Items

As I promised, today's entry is part two of my NYX haul where I review NYX lipsticks and lip liner. Nonpareil Boutique gives free shipping within the United States when you purchase $40 USD or more. I figured out it would be better to get the free shipping than pay 6 dollars for them to ship anyways. They are not the black label lipsticks which are much more expensive. The round lipsticks are very waxy and drying like the traditional lipsticks. If you think they are similar to MAC lustre lipsticks, you're wrong. I have to use my Sally Hansen lip gloss as a base before applying NYX round lipstick. Otherwise, my lips would crack and peel. However, if you have a moisturizing lip balm or lip gloss before applying it, NYX lipstick is very pigmented. For ladies with darker skin tone than me, it will look very nice. To me it just looks strange. </li><li>Miracle is the perfect lipstick for those who want to go red but still afraid. It's redder than pink but not totally red yet. Plus it is shimmering which I like.</li><li>Gardenia is fiery red. I think it's redder than MAC Russian Red and about the same level of redness as Ruby Woo. You can comfortably label it as a vixen red (or to some, it's a "f-me" red.) I like Gardenia the most out of the batch although most red lipsticks do not work on me.</li><li>Thalia is a non-shimmering color I got and it is a weird color. It's supposed to be a nude lipstick but I look like a corpse wearing it. Tres weird!</li></ul>To me, I will never buy NYX round lipsticks again because they are too drying. Moreover, I prefer lip gloss over lipsticks and these guys do not work for me. I feel bad because they are really pigmented and I just want them to be a bit more moisturizing. The only NYX lip liner I purchased is the long lip liner in Natural for 99 cents. I just wanted a neutral lip liner that works well with different colors. It is very long and cute; however, the liner is quite hard to be used on the lips. The lip was drawn with Natural lip liner</div> <div style="text-align: left;">Don't laugh! I was making a swatch of Natural and some lip glosses. When I uploaded it looked like a bunny so I added some extra shapes and colors. And btw, the bunny was scared! My take on these 99 cent items: you get the lip liners, ditch the round lipsticks and use that money for some NYX ultra pearl mania. I really have a lot of fun with NYX products, especially the eyeshadows. I spent a little bit above 40 dollars and got 14 items. If I go to MAC, I may not get even 3 lipsticks, lip glosses, or eye shadows with the same amount of money. NYX formulates their products well and the packages are really cute. I urge you to give it a try if you can. In some areas like L.A, you can find NYX almost everywhere. Nonpareil Boutique and Cherry Culture do ship overseas if you want to try. Serious Rainboots

In the pass I've blogged about pretty, rainbow colored rainboots that you can play matchy, matchy with and have a lot of fun. But after a particularly bad day yesterday, braving the pouring rain for half a hour (even though it is usually only a 15 minute walk!), squeezing onto the bus and getting my jeans soaked even though I have an umbrella, I am thinking that I should really invest in a serious pair of rainboots. Something that will just keep my feet (and hopefully half my jeans) nice, dry and CLEAN. Something I can wear so then I would NOT have to avoid puddles or worry about slipping. I'm not sure how it warrants the $115 price tag, but I guess it is an assurance of quality? They are the rainboots of rainboots after all. If you want to buy a trench coat, you got to go to Burberry. If you must buy trunk-like sheepskin snow boots, you have to buy Uggs. And if you want to buy rainboots, then you should get Hunter rainboots. The style itself is simple and as sleek as rainboots can get. It is sturdy and definitely slip-proof. While the buckle makes the boots not so plain looking, it is also functional. These are serious no nonsense rainboots. Just what I need. They also come in many different colors, to add a bit of color to a dreary day. I'm considering this iris color. Black is just a bit too dark and yellow reminds me too much of those yellow wellington boots that cartoon bear wore. Now the only thing is convincing myself to make the splurge. Just that it's hard when it is all I want on a rainy day, but the furthest thing in my mind on a sunny (good for shopping) day!
